Transatlantic Rowing Races Bumps & Carnage Party 2003
The 2003 Bumps party had a transatlantic theme. It was mainly organised (if that's the right word) from California. The theme was picked out from the 1906 painting of the bumps, Time for Tea, by Percy Robert Craft, which contains both a Stars and Stripes and a Union Jack. We're still not sure what a US flag, pre-WWI, was doing on a rowing boat on the Cam in 1906... A great day of racing, with Caius staying Head of the mens and Newnham making a great leap from fourth to go Head of the womens. For those interested in tall the rest of the boat racing results (no, there are a few!) the final results of all the Bumps races are on: http://dcbc.dow.cam.ac.uk/cucbc/races/bumps/charts.asp#charts And many thanks to the US contingent in Cambridge, J.J., Kelly Menozzi and friends, who helped organise and make the party fun...
